Thanksgiving & Fall Decor
Fall decorating has a timing problem. Halloween ends on October 31st, Thanksgiving is four weeks later, and nobody wants to redecorate the whole house in between. The answer is pieces that never belonged to Halloween in the first place.
Buy for the Season, Not the Holiday
Pumpkins, gourds, warm amber lighting and harvest colors all read as fall from September through November. A grinning jack-o'-lantern does not. If a piece has a face, ask whether that face is scary or merely seasonal; the seasonal ones are the ones that survive past Halloween.
The Thanksgiving Table
Thanksgiving centerpieces work best when they sit low. A tall arrangement blocks the conversation across the table, which is the entire point of the meal. Cluster two or three smaller pieces at the center, or run a low line of them down the middle and leave the sightlines open.
Candles and Warm Light
Warm, uneven light is what makes a fall table feel like fall. Battery LEDs with a flicker effect give you that without anyone watching a flame next to dried leaves and paper napkins.
